The 50-cent coin, commonly known as the ½ franc Semeuse, is a French production dating from 1993. Struck in nickel, it weighs 4.5 grams and has a diameter of 19.5 millimeters. Its edge is reeded.
The obverse of the coin features the Semeuse, an allegorical figure associated with the French Republic. The representation is signed "O. Roty", indicating the artist Louis-Oscar Roty as its creator. The legend "REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE" is inscribed in Latin characters, framing the central motif.
The reverse of the coin features an olive branch positioned under the face value of "1/2 FRANC". The national motto, "LIBERTE ? EGALITE ? FRATERNITE", is arranged around the branch, also in Latin characters. Louis-Oscar Roty is credited for the engraving of this side of the coin.
The mintage of this coin in 1993 amounted to 24,972,011 units.
