The 50 centime coin, commonly known as ½ franc Semeuse, minted in 1985, is a French coin. It is made of nickel, weighs 4.5 grams and has a diameter of 19.5 millimeters. Its edge is reeded.
The obverse of the coin features the Sower (Semeuse), an allegorical figure created by Louis-Oscar Roty. This representation symbolizes the French Republic. The name of the country, "REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE", is inscribed in capital letters, following the upper curve of the coin. The signature "O. Roty" also appears on this side, indicating the artist behind the design.
The reverse of the coin features an olive branch positioned under the face value "1/2 FRANC". The republican motto "LIBERTE ? EGALITE ? FRATERNITE" encircles this ensemble. The engraver, Louis-Oscar Roty, is also credited for the design of this side of the coin.
50,000,500 copies of the ½ franc Semeuse coin were minted in 1985.
