Description

The 50 centime coin, minted in France in 1972, is commonly called "½ franc Semeuse". It is made of nickel and weighs 4.5 grams with a diameter of 19.5 millimeters. The mintage of this year amounts to 42,317,000 copies.

The obverse of the coin features the Semeuse, an allegorical figure emblematic of the French Republic. The inscription "REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE" is inscribed in capital letters, framing the figure. The signature "O. Roty" indicates that the design is the work of Louis-Oscar Roty, a renowned engraver.

The reverse of the coin displays the face value "1/2 FRANC" in its center. An olive branch is arranged under this indication. The national motto "LIBERTE ? EGALITE ? FRATERNITE" is inscribed in capital letters around the central motif. Louis-Oscar Roty is also the engraver of this side of the coin.

The edge of the coin is reeded. The coin's composition is nickel.
