The 50 centime coin, commonly known as the ½ franc Semeuse, is a French coin minted in nickel. This coin was first issued in 1969.
The obverse of the coin depicts the Semeuse (Sower), an allegorical figure created by Louis-Oscar Roty. This representation symbolizes the French Republic. The inscription "REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE" is written in capital letters, arranged circularly around the figure. The engraver's signature, "O. Roty", is also present on this side.
The reverse of the coin features an olive branch, a symbol of peace and prosperity. The face value, "1/2 FRANC", is inscribed in the center of the coin, above the branch. The French national motto, "LIBERTE ? EGALITE ? FRATERNITE", surrounds the central motif. As with the obverse, the design of the reverse is the work of Louis-Oscar Roty.
The edge of the coin is reeded. It weighs 4.5 grams and has a diameter of 19.5 millimeters.
The year of issue of the coin mentioned is 1970. The mintage for this specific year is 42,308,000 copies.
