This Ceylon banknote, with a face value of 2 rupees, was issued in 1952. It belongs to the E.10 series.
On the front, at the top, is the name of the issuing institution in English: "CENTRAL BANK OF CEYLON". On the left, there is a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara of Queen Mary. The following text is printed: "This note is issued on behalf of the Government of Ceylon and is legal tender in Ceylon for the payment of any amount TWO RUPEES 3rd June 1952".
The back of the banknote features lotus-stem-shaped pillars of the Medirigiriya Vatadage in Polonnaruwa. The name of the issuer, "CENTRAL BANK OF CEYLON", is written in English at the top, as well as the face value "TWO RUPEES".
The watermark represents a lion on its hind legs holding a whip. The dimensions of the banknote are 120 mm in length and 66 mm in width.
