The 20,000 Vietnamese dong banknote issued in 2006 is a representative piece of modern Vietnamese fiat currency. This note from the State Bank of Vietnam bears the face value of 20,000 dong, a denomination commonly used in everyday transactions throughout the country.
The obverse of the banknote features the portrait of Ho Chi Minh, the iconic figure and founder of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam. Born in 1890 and deceased in 1969, Ho Chi Minh was the revolutionary and political leader who guided Vietnam through a pivotal period of its history. His portrait adorns the vast majority of Vietnamese banknotes in circulation, reflecting his central place in the national identity of the country.
This banknote belongs to the polymer banknote series introduced by Vietnam in the early 2000s, gradually replacing the former cotton notes. The use of polymer gives the banknote increased durability as well as enhanced security features, including holographic elements and transparent windows integrated into the substrate.
The reverse of the banknote generally depicts elements representative of Vietnam's cultural heritage or landscapes, in keeping with the iconographic policy adopted by the State Bank for this series. The dominant colour palette of this denomination revolves around shades of blue, allowing for quick and intuitive visual identification.
