Description

The 2 dollar bill belongs to the 2017A series and is issued by the Federal Reserve of the United States. It bears the district letter G, identifying the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, the seventh district of the American Federal Reserve.

The obverse of the bill features the portrait of Thomas Jefferson, third President of the United States and one of the founding fathers of the American nation. Jefferson is also the principal author of the Declaration of Independence of 1776. His likeness has appeared on this bill since 1929, when the format of American banknotes was standardized to its current size.

The reverse of the bill reproduces an engraving depicting the signing of the Declaration of Independence, a historic scene taking place in 1776. This illustration is an adaptation of the painting by John Trumbull, housed in the United States Capitol in Washington. The design of this bill, both on the obverse and reverse, follows the classic graphic codes of American fiat currency, with its characteristic security features and iconic green background.

The 2 dollar bill is one of the least common denominations in circulation in the United States. Its production is significantly lower than that of other denominations, making it a relatively rare bill in everyday transactions, although it retains full legal tender status on American territory. The 2017A series corresponds to an issue following a signature change on the bill, in accordance with the practices of the American Federal Reserve, which updates the series designation with each change of Secretary of the Treasury or Treasurer of the United States.
