The banknote pays tribute to the Romanian painter Nicolae Grigorescu (1838-1907), a major figure in 19th-century Romanian pictorial art, considered the father of modern Romanian painting. His work, deeply rooted in the landscapes and rural scenes of the Romanian countryside, as well as his depictions of the War of Independence of 1877, earned him considerable national recognition. The presence of his portrait on this banknote reflects the cultural and artistic importance accorded to him in Romanian national identity.

This 10 lei banknote is made of polymer, a synthetic material used by many modern central banks due to its increased durability compared to traditional cotton paper. This substrate also offers better resistance to wear and moisture, while allowing the integration of security features specific to this type of substrate, such as transparent windows.

The banknote features the graphic and security characteristics typical of National Bank of Romania issues from this period, including various anti-counterfeiting techniques integrated into the polymer substrate. It bears the face value of 10 lei, clearly indicated on both sides of the banknote, in accordance with the monetary issuance standards in force in Romania.
