Description
The 1 Omani Rial banknote issued in 2025 is part of the fiduciary monetary production of the Sultanate of Oman. This banknote is denominated in Omani rial, the official currency of the country, renowned for being one of the most valued currencies in the world.
This 2025 banknote bears the effigy of Sultan Haitham bin Tariq, ruler of Oman since January 2020, when he succeeded Sultan Qaboos bin Said after nearly fifty years of reign. Haitham bin Tariq Al Said belongs to the Al Bu Said dynasty, which has governed the sultanate since the 18th century. His portrait on banknotes marks the continuity of the Omani tradition of representing the reigning head of state on official currency notes.
The Central Bank of Oman, the institution responsible for issuing the national currency, oversees the production and circulation of this banknote. Omani banknotes are traditionally recognised for the quality of their printing and the richness of their designs, which generally combine references to the architecture, cultural heritage and natural landscapes of the sultanate.
The face value of 1 Omani rial represents an intermediate denomination within the range of banknotes in circulation in Oman. The Omani rial is subdivided into 1,000 baisa, which gives this banknote a significant position within the national monetary system. The series of banknotes to which this 2025 issue belongs reflects the evolution of Omani fiduciary series, regularly updated to incorporate contemporary security features and to reflect the current representatives of power within the sultanate.
