Billet commémoratifs

The 50 Mexican pesos banknote belongs to series DW, with a print date of June 27, 2024. It is part of the 2021 issue by the Banco de México, which undertook a significant redesign of its range of banknotes in circulation.

This 50 pesos banknote is part of the new generation of Mexican banknotes that highlights the natural and cultural heritage of Mexico. The obverse of the banknote features the image of the axolotl (Ambystoma mexicanum), a species of aquatic salamander endemic to Lake Xochimilco, in the Mexico City region. This amphibian, considered a powerful symbol of Mexican biodiversity, is today classified as a critically endangered species. The axolotl holds a special place in Aztec cosmogony, being associated with the god Xolotl.

The reverse of the banknote illustrates the Xochimilco canal, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, depicting the famous chinampas, those cultivated artificial islands inherited from the pre-Hispanic era. This aquatic landscape bears witness to an ancestral agricultural expertise still present in the region.

From a technical standpoint, this banknote features various security characteristics specific to modern issues by the Banco de México, including holographic elements, optically variable ink effects and raised printing perceptible to the touch. The face value of 50 pesos is clearly indicated on both sides of the banknote. The DW series makes it possible to precisely identify the production batch to which this specimen belongs, essential information for collectors and financial institutions in tracking monetary circulation.
