Description
This 1000 Jamaican dollar banknote, issued on 1st June 2022, is part of the official currency series of Jamaica. It represents the highest denomination currently in circulation within the contemporary Jamaican monetary system.
The banknote features two iconic figures from Jamaican political and social history. Alexander Bustamante (1884?1977), whose portrait is prominently displayed, was the first Prime Minister of independent Jamaica, founder of the Jamaica Labour Party, and a leading figure in the island's trade union movement. He is recognised as one of the founding fathers of the Jamaican nation. Alongside Bustamante appears Norman Washington Manley (1893?1969), a renowned lawyer and statesman, founder of the People's National Party and a passionate advocate of Jamaican independence. Although political rivals, both figures are designated as national heroes of Jamaica.
This 2022 banknote is part of a broader effort to modernise Jamaican monetary instruments, incorporating the latest security technologies found in contemporary banknotes. Its issuance by the Bank of Jamaica reflects the monetary authorities' commitment to honouring the historical figures who shaped the country's national identity.
The banknote has a face value of 1000 Jamaican dollars. The issue date printed on this note is 1st June 2022, making it a recent example of Jamaican monetary production.
