The 100 francs Cézanne banknote is an issue of the Banque de France dating from 1997, officially put into circulation in 1998. It belongs to the so-called "Grands Hommes" (Great Men) series, which marked the final years of the French franc before the introduction of the euro.

This banknote pays tribute to the painter Paul Cézanne (1839-1906), a major figure in post-impressionist painting and a precursor of Cubism, originally from Aix-en-Provence. Its graphic design reflects the artistic world of the painter, with direct references to his work and his Provençal surroundings, notably the representation of Mont Sainte-Victoire, a recurring motif in his pictorial work.

The front of the banknote features a portrait of Paul Cézanne, accompanied by elements characteristic of his creative universe, while the reverse features motifs inspired by his compositions and iconic landscapes. The dominant colour palette revolves around warm tones, evoking the ochres and blues typical of the Provençal region that so greatly inspired the artist.

This banknote is identifiable by the presence of the letter P, which corresponds to an identification code used to distinguish the different series and printing houses that participated in the production of this banknote. This letter is among the reference elements used by collectors to precisely classify copies.

From a technical standpoint, the banknote features the security devices characteristic of Banque de France issues of that era, including intaglio printing elements, a watermark, and other anti-counterfeiting processes integrated into the paper substrate.
