The 100 francs Cézanne banknote was issued in 1998 by the Banque de France. It is part of the series of French banknotes paying tribute to the great names of French culture and the arts, in this case the Post-Impressionist painter Paul Cézanne (1839-1906), a major figure in Western painting and a precursor of modern art.

This banknote bears the letter R, which corresponds to the printing house code of the Banque de France responsible for its production. This letter is an important identification element for collectors wishing to distinguish the different variants of this type of banknote.

The obverse of the banknote features a portrait of Paul Cézanne, accompanied by reproductions of his iconic works, including elements from his famous still lifes and his depictions of the Montagne Sainte-Victoire, a recurring motif in his work. The chromatic palette of the banknote is built around warm tones, echoing the pictorial universe of the master from Aix-en-Provence.

The reverse of the banknote also features visual elements directly inspired by Cézanne's work, with compositions reminiscent of his apple still lifes and Provençal landscapes, thus reinforcing the iconographic consistency of this banknote with the artist it represents.

This 100 francs banknote belongs to the last generation of French franc banknotes, before the transition to the euro in 2002. As such, it holds particular historical and documentary value, bearing witness to the end of a long French monetary tradition. Its condition remains a determining factor in assessing its value for collectors specialising in paper numismatics and notaphily.
