Banknote Billet Congo (RDC) 50 francs 2013

This 50 Congolese franc banknote was issued on 30 June 2013 by the Central Bank of Congo, as part of the KE series. It is part of the monetary policy of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and constitutes a denomination within the range of banknotes in circulation in this Central African country.

The central iconographic element of this banknote is the Tséokwé Mask, also spelled Tshokwe or Chokwe. This mask is intimately linked to the Tshokwe people, one of the most significant ethnic groups of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, also present in Angola and Zambia. Tshokwe masks hold a fundamental place in the ritual and initiatory ceremonies of this culture, particularly during rites of passage. They are internationally recognised for the refinement of their artistic execution and their profound symbolic value, making them reference objects in traditional African art.
