Description
The 10 reais banknote issued by Brazil in 2010 belongs to the series known as the "Real", the Brazilian national currency introduced in 1994. This issue is part of the second family of reais banknotes, characterised by the prominent display of Brazilian fauna on its denominations.
The obverse of the banknote features the allegorical portrait of the Republic, an emblematic figure adorning all Brazilian banknotes in this series, accompanied by the security features specific to issues of the Banco Central do Brasil. The face value of 10 reais is clearly indicated, along with the official inscriptions related to the issuing institution.
The reverse highlights the Arara, the Portuguese term for the macaw parrot, one of the most iconic birds of the Amazon and of Brazil's natural heritage. This illustration follows the logic of the series, which associates each denomination with an animal species representative of Brazil's biodiversity. The dominant colours of the banknote are characteristic of this denomination and allow for quick visual identification.
This banknote incorporates several security features in line with the Banco Central do Brasil's standards for this period, including security threads, watermarks, and raised printing perceptible to the touch. These devices are designed to guarantee the authenticity of the banknote and to prevent counterfeiting.
