Description
The 200 Argentine pesos banknote issued in 2016 belongs to series CC and represents a remarkable issue from the Central Bank of the Argentine Republic. This banknote is dedicated to the southern right whale (Eubalaena australis), one of the most iconic marine mammals of Patagonian waters, and to the Valdés Peninsula, an Argentine natural site listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999.
The Valdés Peninsula, located in the province of Chubut in Patagonia, is globally recognized as one of the most important sanctuaries for the breeding and raising of young southern right whales. Each year, these cetaceans migrate to the protected waters of the Nuevo and San José gulfs that border the peninsula, offering a natural spectacle of great biological richness.
The obverse of the banknote features a detailed illustration of the southern right whale, whose distinctive physical characteristics ? most notably the whitish callosities on the head ? are faithfully reproduced. The marine landscape of the Valdés Peninsula accompanies this depiction, underscoring the close bond between the animal and its natural environment. The face value of 200 pesos is clearly indicated on the banknote, along with the official inscriptions specific to issues from the Central Bank of Argentina.
The reverse of the banknote completes the naturalist theme with graphic elements evoking the richness of Patagonia's wildlife and landscapes. The security features characteristic of modern banknotes are integrated into the design, in accordance with current fiduciary printing standards.
This banknote is part of an Argentine thematic series celebrating the country's natural heritage through its monetary issues. The series designation CC allows precise identification of the printing plate from which this banknote originates within the total production of this denomination.
