The front of the banknote features a portrait of Albert I, King of the Belgians. The king's name is written in capital letters. The face value "5" is printed in numerals in the upper left and right corners, as well as in words at the bottom center. The inscription "CINQ FRANCS" is repeated in Dutch as "VIJF FRANK". The signatures are affixed at the bottom of the banknote.
The back of the banknote features an ornamental composition with geometric and floral motifs. The face value "5" is repeated in the corners. The inscription "BANQUE NATIONALE DE BELGIQUE" is written in French and Dutch as "NATIONALE BANK VAN BELGIE". The year of issue "1943" is also on the back. A unique serial number is printed on the banknote.
