Description

This Belgian banknote, with a face value of 5 francs, was issued in 1943. It is distinguished by its dominant red color, enhanced by shades of pink and light blue in the background. The front of the note features a decorative border framing the denomination, printed in Latin. It also includes the mention of the National Bank of Belgium, as well as the face value expressed in francs and belga. A promise of payment on sight is inscribed, accompanied by a legal warning concerning counterfeiting, punishable by forced labor.

The back of the note repeats the same colors and decorative motifs as the front. The face value is highlighted in the center, surrounded by an ornamental border. The text of the promise of payment is repeated, this time in Dutch. The serial number of this specific banknote is S1: 297312.

This banknote bears the signatures of Henri Sontag, as Treasurer (HS), and Georges Theunis, as Governor (GT) of the National Bank. The printer responsible for the manufacture of this note is De La Rue, a company based in London, United Kingdom.

The banknote is associated with the figure of Albert I, King of the Belgians, whose portrait could appear on the note itself, although this is not explicitly mentioned in the information provided. The 5 franc banknote from 1943 is a testimony to Belgian monetary history during the Second World War period.
