The 1 Bahamian dollar banknote, issued in 1996, features an elaborate design and distinctive security features. This banknote is part of the R series and was issued by the Central Bank of The Bahamas.
On the front, the banknote is primarily printed in green with multi-colored underprints. The bust of Queen Elizabeth II, wearing the Burmese ruby tiara, is positioned in the center right. A blank map of the Bahamian islands is visible in the center, while illustrations of fish and coral adorn the left side. The watermark area is located on the right. The serial numbers, printed in black, are arranged horizontally and vertically. An ascending serial number is located at the bottom left, and the bank's transparent logo is visible on the left. Inscriptions include the name of the issuing bank, a statement on the legal tender of the banknote, the face value, series, year of issue, and the governor's signature.
The reverse of the banknote is also printed in green with multi-colored underprints. The band of the Royal Bahamas Police Force is highlighted in the center. The coat of arms of the Bahamas and the bank's logo are placed on the right, while a shell pattern is visible at the bottom left. A watermark is located on the left.
The watermark depicts a Caravel sailing ship. The dimensions of the banknote are 156 mm in length and 67 mm in width.
