Description

This commemorative 50 Argentine Peso banknote, issued in 2015, pays tribute to the 32nd anniversary of the invasion of the archipelago known as the Falkland Islands by Great Britain and Islas Malvinas by Argentina. It belongs to series A.

On the obverse, the banknote features a dark navy blue print on a multicolored background of light teal, pink, yellow, and cyan. The serial numbers are printed in red and black. There is a schematic of the Islas Malvinas (Falkland Islands), South Georgia, and the South Sandwich Islands, as well as a map of South America and the Caribbean, including the Argentine Antarctic Territory. Natural elements such as giant kelp and an albatross are also depicted. The inscription "BANCO CENTRAL DE LA REPUBLICA ARGENTINA" is clearly visible, as are the words "ISLAS MALVINAS, GEORGIAS DEL SUR, SANDWICH DEL SUR Y ESPACIOS MARITIMOS CIRCUNDANTES DEL ATLANTICO SUR" and the motto "Ningún suelo más querido de la Patria en la extensión". The face value "CINCUENTA PESOS" is also indicated.

The reverse of the banknote features a deep navy blue print on a multicolored background of teal, pink, purple, yellow, and cyan. The main scene depicts Gaucho Antonio Rivero on horseback, brandishing an Argentine flag. A landscape and the Darwin Cemetery (Argentine cemetery in the Falkland Islands) are also illustrated. Also identifiable is the light cruiser "General Belgrano," which was sunk by the Royal Navy during the Falklands War on May 2, 1982, as well as a Falkland Island gull (gaviota malvinense). The coat of arms is positioned in the lower right. The inscription "REPUBLICA ARGENTINA en unión y libertad" is present, as is a dedication to "GAUCHO ANTONIO RIVERO (Entre Rios 1808 - Buenos Aires 1845)", describing him as the first defender of national sovereignty in the Falkland Islands, having recovered sovereignty in 1833 and fought for the social rights of the island's workers. The mention "S.E. CASA DE MONEDA" is also visible.

The banknote incorporates a watermark depicting a map of the Falkland Islands and the electrotype "IM". Its dimensions are 155 mm in length and 65 mm in width.
