Beschreibung

Saladin, also known as Salah ad-Din Yusuf ibn Ayyub, was a Kurdish military and political leader during the medieval period. Born in 1137 in Tikrit (present-day Iraq), he is primarily known for his actions during the Crusades, a series of conflicts between European Christian states and Muslim forces in the Middle East.

Saladin emerged as a central figure in the struggle against the Crusaders, gaining control over Egypt and Syria in the 12th century. He became the founder of the Ayyubid dynasty. His capture of Jerusalem in 1187 was one of his most famous feats, and he is widely recognized for his chivalrous treatment of the defeated, enhancing his reputation as a noble and respected leader.

His skillful leadership helped unite diverse Muslim forces under a single banner to counter the Crusaders. Saladin is often seen as an exemplar of heroism and adherence to chivalric values even in the context of warfare. After his death in 1193, he became an iconic figure in the history and culture of the Middle East, admired for his piety, wisdom, and military leadership.
