The 5 lari banknote, issued between 2002 and 2013, is part of the CA series. This banknote pays tribute to Ivane Javakhishvili, a prominent figure in Georgian academic history.
On the front of the banknote, the Borjgali, a Georgian solar symbol, is depicted in the upper left and center. The portrait of Ivane Javakhishvili, Georgian academician and founder of the State University, occupies a central place. The face value of the banknote is indicated to the right of the portrait. The serial number is positioned in the upper left and right corners.
The back of the banknote features a map of Georgia in English on the left. A view of the State University is visible in the center right, while a golden statue of a lion, dating from 2300 to 2000 BC and discovered in a tomb in the Alazani Valley, is depicted on the left. The inscriptions are in Georgian and English.
The banknote measures 115 mm in length and 61 mm in width.
