Galia and Germania is the sixth and final coin in the Allegories series that is presented to collectors in 2023. This series represents personifications of countries from around the world in the form of beautiful, voluptuous and strong women. This year's coin, which symbolises victory over the occupying forces, is intended to bring hope and comfort.
Galia and Germania have in common that they were inhabited by other tribes and were confronted by the Roman Empire.
The Allegories coins are created in a diameter of 38 61 mm and four different thicknesses and weights from 3 mm for the 1 oz coin to 25 85 mm for the 10 oz coin which is exceptional not only because of its thickness but also because the blanks from which it was struck were processed by hand.
The obverse of the coin depicts the personifications of Galia and Germania as beautiful young women. They stand with their hands joined in victory. Their swords are sheathed after the battle and the debris of the defeated Roman Empire lies beneath their feet.
In the artistic vision of the Germanic Mint project Galia is dressed in a Roman breastplate and sandals, indicating the mixture of cultures imposed by the need to cooperate with the occupying power. She holds a Gallic spear in her hand and wears a Gallic diadem with wings on her head.
Germania's head is adorned with an oak branch, a tree that has accompanied her since the beginning of the series. In her hand she holds a shield representing a double-headed eagle.
As in the previous series, the image on the reverse side is the coat of arms representing moral principles and noble values. Germania was a historical land and was never an official country, so we decided to create our own interpretation of its coat of arms. Its symbols and design are the fruit of our imagination but have been created in accordance with the current heraldic rules.
