Rama VIII, also known as King Ananda Mahidol, was the eighth king of the Chakri dynasty in Thailand. He was born on September 20, 1925, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA. His father was King Rama VII, and his mother was Queen Rambai Barni.

Rama VIII ascended to the throne at the age of nine after the death of his uncle, King Rama VII, in 1935. Due to his young age, a regency was established until he came of age. He was crowned as King Ananda Mahidol on March 2, 1935.

However, his reign was marked by periods of political turmoil and instability. In 1946, at the age of 20, Rama VIII died under mysterious circumstances. He was found dead in his bedroom with a gunshot wound. The official investigation concluded it as an accident, but the circumstances surrounding his death sparked speculation and controversies. His younger brother, Bhumibol Adulyadej, succeeded him and became King Rama IX of Thailand.

King Ananda Mahidol remained in the hearts of the Thai people and is often regarded as a symbol of the country's constitutional monarchy. His life and death have inspired narratives and discussions that have endured for many years.
