A wartime godmother writes to a soldier with the text of the letter in the background. Around the piece, the words "LES MARRAINES DE Guerre VERDUN 1916-2016" are written.
The Poppy and the Cornflower, symbols of the Commonwealth and French veterans respectively, are added. The sponsor's letter extends to the edge of the coin and reaches the reverse where it reaches the soldiers in the trenches at Verdun.
