The year 2023 marks the 550th anniversary of the birth of Nicolaus Copernicus, Poland's most famous astronomer. That's why the Germania Mint is issuing an unusual coin: the 10 euro Malte 2023 Copernicus in 2 ounces of silver.

Nicolaus Copernicus launched the scientific revolution and had a significant impact on its development. His main achievement was the heliocentric theory, which asserted that the Earth and the other planets revolved around the Sun, and not vice versa, as was believed at the time. Copernicus published this theory in his work entitled "De revolutionibus orbium coelestium" (On the revolutions of the celestial spheres).

The obverse of the coin bearing the effigy of Copernicus is embellished with an amber sun. The reverse depicts a 16th-century solar system. The coin, designed by Natalia Danysz, will be available in a unique packaging, in an edition of 1,473 numbered pieces.
