Go-Momozono (1758-1779) was the 118th Emperor of Japan, reigning from 1771 to 1779. He was the fifth son of Emperor Sakuramachi. His birth name was Toohito.

Go-Momozono's reign was relatively short and occurred during the Edo period, a time of relative peace under the control of the Tokugawa shogunate. However, his reign was marked by political tensions and conflicts among different factions at the imperial court.

Go-Momozono also faced financial difficulties during his reign, which had repercussions on the country's economic stability. Conflicts and political intrigues at the court contributed to internal disruptions.

It's important to note that during the Edo period, real political power was held by the Tokugawa shogunate, while the emperor had a primarily symbolic role. Despite this, Emperor Go-Momozono was involved in court affairs and played a role in the political dynamics of the time.

Go-Momozono passed away in 1779 and was succeeded by his son, Emperor Kokaku.
