Descripción
.Herod, a Jew of Edomite origin, ruled as king, under Roman patronage, for 33 years, from 37 BCE to 4 BCE. He was known as the "Builder King." Some of the construction projects attributed to him include the Temple of Jerusalem, the port city of Caesarea, and fortresses such as Masada and Cypros. Herodium is the only palace that immortalizes Herod's name. It commemorates the decisive battle of the king against the last Hasmonean king. In this battle, Herod, although displaying great courage, nearly perished in combat. Herodium is located on the edge of the Judean Desert, east of Bethlehem and somewhat south of Jerusalem. Unique in its size and splendor, it is the third-largest palace discovered in the entire Roman world.
Stamped at the Munich Mint (Germany) with the mint mark "?" (Mem).
