Tutankhamun (born c. 1345 BC, died c. 1327 BC) was the eleventh pharaoh of the 18th Dynasty (New Kingdom). According to the latest genetic studies, he was the son of Akhenaten and the latter's own sister, whose identity is unknown, but who is designated as Younger Ladyn 3, whose mummy is listed as KV35YL2. Manetho calls her Chebres.

It is not known why he did not succeed his father directly. Perhaps it was because he was too young, aged around nine (or even five or six). He reigned at a time of turmoil, religious questioning, upheaval of traditional values and the risk of war with the Hittites. He lived to the age of eighteen or nineteen (some scholars, such as Marc Gabolde and Edward Frank Wente, say twenty). His reign took place between 1336/1335 and 1327 BC1.
