The design of the commemorative coin depicts the portrait of the Croatian writer Marko Maruli?, whose literary legacy is of historical and cultural importance to the Republic of Croatia, which was the main motif of the obverse of the 500 kuna banknote.
The author of the design for the national side is Stjepan Divkovi?, a university sculptor. The coin was minted at the Croatian Mint and 200,000 copies were issued.
