The Japanese protectorate in Korea was a period of Japanese dominance over Korea that lasted from 1905 to 1910. During this time, Japan exerted significant control over Korea's politics, economy, and culture. The protectorate was established following the unequal treaty known as the "Protectorate Treaty" signed in 1905, after the Russo-Japanese War, which gave Japan effective control over Korea's internal and external affairs.

The protectorate was presented as a measure to "protect" Korea from the influence of other foreign powers, but in reality, it amounted to an occupation and exploitation by Imperial Japan. During this period, many Korean institutions were reformed or replaced to align with Japanese structures, and Korean cultural identity was suppressed.

In 1910, Japan formally annexed Korea, ending the protectorate and making Korea an integral part of the Japanese Empire. This period left deep scars in Korean history and contributed to tensions and anti-Japanese sentiments that persisted for many years.
