Léopold I of Belgium, also known as Leopold of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, was the first king of the Belgians. He was born on December 16, 1790, in Coburg, in the Duchy of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld (now in Germany) and died on December 10, 1865, in Laeken, Belgium.

Léopold was a German prince who was chosen as the first king of Belgium after the country gained independence from Dutch rule in 1830. Léopold was an important figure in Belgian history as he played a key role in consolidating the new kingdom and developing its institutions. His reign was marked by political and diplomatic challenges, including the issue of national unity and tensions with neighboring powers.

Léopold I was a respected king for his political wisdom and ability to navigate the tumultuous times of his era. His reign laid the foundations for constitutional monarchy in Belgium and helped stabilize the country after a period of turmoil and revolutions.
