The 2024 New Year coin is a special coin for a very special year. With 366 days instead of the usual 365, 2024 is a leap year and this limited edition coin is designed to remind you that this extra day is to be enjoyed amid the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

The extra day in a leap year synchronises the calendar year with the solar year and therefore with cosmic order. You must accept it as a celestial gift and regard it as an extra slice of luck. The extra day is a day with great potential that allows you to take a little more time for yourself, to devote more time than usual to someone else or to do something you've always wanted to do. If you've decided to tackle something completely new between now and the end of the year, why not use that extra day to do just that? Everyday life tends to demand a lot of us without making concessions, but that's not the case in 2024, when we have an extra day to make the most of it.

The reverse of the nine-sided coin is dedicated to the Gregorian calendar, introduced by Pope Gregory XIII in 1582 to bring the calendar back into line with the solar year. Pope Gregory XIII appears on the right-hand edge of the coin, next to a large human representation of the Sun, with flaming hair. Below the Sun, the calendar page for February shows 29 February - the extra day. At the top is the zodiac sign of Pisces, which corresponds to the end of February. The obverse of the coin shows the coats of arms of the nine provinces of Austria.
