Maria Remedios del Valle

Maria Remedios del Valle (1766-1847), nicknamed "the Captain" and "the Mother of the Nation," is a heroine of Argentina's War of Independence. Born in Buenos Aires, she actively participated in the struggles for independence against the Spanish colonial forces. She followed General Manuel Belgrano's troops and distinguished herself by her bravery, caring for the wounded and directly participating in battles. Captured by the Spanish, she was tortured but never betrayed her comrades. After the war, she lived in poverty and obscurity until her contributions were officially recognized and she received a government pension.

Manuel Belgrano

Manuel Belgrano (1770-1820) is one of the most important figures in Argentine history. A lawyer, economist, military leader, and politician, he is best known for creating the Argentine flag on February 27, 1812. Born in Buenos Aires, he studied in Spain before returning to Argentina to get involved in public affairs. He played a key role in the War of Independence, leading the patriot forces against the Spanish. Belgrano was also a social and educational reformer, advocating for the improvement of education and women's rights. His contribution to the nation is commemorated every year on June 20th, Argentine Flag Day.

These two figures are symbols of courage and dedication to Argentina's independence and development.
