Manuel Belgrano was an Argentine politician, lawyer, economist, and intellectual. He is best known for his role as a leader during the Argentine Revolution and for his active involvement in the struggle for Argentina's independence from Spain in the early 19th century.
Belgrano was born on June 3, 1770, in Buenos Aires, which was then part of the Spanish colonial empire. He studied law at the University of Salamanca in Spain and then returned to Argentina, where he played a major role in the independence movements.
He became a fervent supporter of Argentine independence and participated in the creation of the Argentine flag, which bears the blue and white colors chosen to symbolize the nation. Belgrano was also among the first to propose the idea of complete political independence of Argentina from Spain.
In addition to his political activities, Belgrano held various positions in the emerging Argentine government and also contributed to promoting education and culture in the country. He passed away on June 20, 1820, leaving behind a significant legacy as a key figure in Argentine independence
