3000 Forint - Hungary 2024
50 years of the Rubik's cube
Nordic gold - 20g - Ø 37.18 mm - 20,000 copies.
The Rubik's Cube is a three-dimensional mechanical logic puzzle invented by Ern? Rubik Jr. in 1974. The Hungarian inventor quickly realised the potential of this educational tool to help people understand three-dimensional movement in the form of an exciting, simple yet complicated puzzle. In just a few years, the Rubik's Cube conquered the world: the first world championships were held on 5 June 1982 and have been organised every two years since 2003. The Rubik's Cube is considered one of Hungary's greatest inventions. Ern? Rubik is a Hungarian sculptor, architect, designer, interior architect, game designer, inventor and university professor; he applied for a patent for his invention under the name ?Magic Cube?. According to the patent: ?The essence of the invention is that the 27 elements of the large cube can be repositioned without breaking the large cube, in a single homologous act: to do this, it is necessary to turn the nine small cubes forming one of the surfaces of the large cube.? After the patent was granted, the first Magic Cubes appeared in Hungary and the puzzle began its own life. In 1980, the Magic Cube was renamed Rubik's Cube and almost a million pieces were sold in Hungary alone. The continuing popularity of the Rubik's Cube is demonstrated by the fact that over 500 million have been sold worldwide. Not only has the Rubik's Cube been a great commercial success, it has also inspired a multitude of artistic works over the last few decades.
